The Variety

Coffee at its Peak

The Iturralde family claims that Finca Takesi is the highest coffee farm in the world, and we aren't inclined to argue with them.

The farm is perched precariously in a narrow fold of the Bolivian Andes, clinging to a steep hillside above a deep ravine carved over centuries by the rushing waters of the Takesi River below. Rising from the riverbed, the farm reaches more than 3100 meters, with coffee planted over 35 hectares between 1800 and 2500 meters. The upper limits of the farm are so high that conventional wisdom tells us coffee cannot grow there. The majestic, snow-capped peak of Mururata Mountain looms above the farm, serving as a reminder of the epic landscape and the challenges of growing and exporting coffee in such an extreme environment.

Risk & Reward

There was no handbook for the Iturralde family to refer to when they first established Finca Takesi, so over the years, they have had to write their own. Continuous learning and exploration on the farm have yielded outstanding results, with the Finca Takesi Geisha being among the very best coffees that we source. Every harvest serves as a testament to the vision and dedication of the Iturralde family, whose mission to produce world-class coffee is led by Mariana Iturralde.

Perennial Favorite

The Finca Takesi Geisha has appeared on our menu every year since 2012, rightfully earning its place as our most anticipated coffee release. While the coffee never lasts long on our menu, the memory of its striking, elegant flavors lingers. We revel in the short but sweet window each year when we get to experience the nuances of the harvest at hand. This year's harvest presents flavors of candied, juicy fruit layered with the persistent sweetness and delicate florals that are a hallmark of the elegant Geisha cultivar.
